The Trouble with Tomatoes A Discussion of Workers’ Rights and Environmental Justice

Come join Sustainable Silver and Oxfam America at NYU on the anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire as we follow a tomato from the fields it’s grown in to the salad on our plates.  We’ll be screening two short films, Coalition of Immokalee Workers vs. Taco Bell about a group of Florida tomato pickers’ struggle for acceptable working conditions, and Shame on You, a youth-made documentary about environmental justice in the Bronx.  We’ll then be joined for a panel discussion with two of the producers of Shame on You, New York City food sovereignty activist Sarah Pappas, and NYU’s own Anna Smukowski of Oxfam.  Delicious and sustainable food will be provided by the Green Canteen, an on-campus sustainable lunch stand to be launched this coming September.

When: March 25 7:00pm

Where: The Parlor at the NYU School of Social Work, 1 Washington Square North
